Purchased this set as a way to increase beyond the 10lb weights I already had. The set is versatile and intuitive/easy to put together and use. The box did not come with instructions, but it's easy enough to see how the parts are meant to fit together. I recommend using gloves for using the set as individual dumbbells because the grips are a little rough on the hands.
